¶ Spectrum Networks – Health and Safety Policy
Spectrum Networks is committed to providing and maintaining a safe and healthy working
environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors. The health, safety, and
wellbeing of our people are fundamental to the way we operate and to the success of
the business.
The purpose of this Health and Safety Policy is to:
- set out Spectrum Networks’ commitment to a safe and healthy workplace;
- outline the responsibilities of management, supervisors, employees, and contractors;
- provide a framework for identifying, assessing, and controlling workplace hazards;
- support compliance with applicable work health and safety legislation and standards.
This policy applies to:
- all Spectrum Networks employees, directors, and officers;
- contractors, consultants, and agency staff working on Spectrum Networks’ behalf; and
- visitors to Spectrum Networks’ workplaces, sites, or facilities.
It covers all work activities carried out at Spectrum Networks offices, data centres,
remote work locations, and customer or supplier premises where work is performed on
behalf of Spectrum Networks.
Spectrum Networks will:
-
comply with all relevant work health and safety legislation, standards, and codes of
practice, including the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (Cth) and
applicable state-based regulations;
-
identify, assess, and manage risks to eliminate or, where this is not reasonably
practicable, minimise hazards in the workplace;
-
ensure that plant, equipment, and work systems are safe, fit for purpose, and
properly maintained;
-
provide adequate information, instruction, training, and supervision to enable safe
work practices;
-
consult with employees and contractors on matters that may affect their health and
safety and encourage active participation in safety initiatives;
-
promote a culture of continuous improvement in safety performance, reporting, and awareness;
-
support the physical and psychological wellbeing of staff, including recognising the
impact of workload, stress, and remote work arrangements.
Management is responsible for:
- implementing and maintaining this Health and Safety Policy;
- ensuring adequate resources are allocated to manage health and safety risks;
- establishing clear safety objectives and monitoring performance against them;
- promoting a proactive safety culture through visible leadership and example;
- ensuring that incidents and hazards are reported, investigated, and addressed promptly.
¶ 4.2 Supervisors and Team Leaders
Supervisors and team leaders are responsible for:
- ensuring work is planned and carried out safely and in accordance with procedures;
- identifying hazards in their area of control and implementing appropriate controls;
- making sure staff are trained, competent, and aware of relevant safety requirements;
- encouraging open communication about safety concerns and near misses;
- reporting incidents, hazards, and safety issues in line with company processes.
¶ 4.3 Employees and Contractors
Employees and contractors are required to:
- take reasonable care for their own health and safety and that of others;
- follow all safety instructions, procedures, and reasonable directions;
- use equipment, tools, and personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly;
- report hazards, unsafe conditions, incidents, and near misses as soon as practicable;
- not undertake work they consider to be unsafe and escalate concerns to a supervisor.
¶ 5. Hazard Management and Safe Work Practices
Spectrum Networks will apply a risk-based approach to managing workplace hazards. This includes:
- regularly inspecting workplaces and work activities to identify potential hazards;
- assessing the likelihood and consequence of identified risks;
- implementing controls in line with the hierarchy of control (elimination, substitution, engineering, administrative controls, and PPE);
- reviewing controls periodically and after any incident or significant change in work conditions.
Particular focus is given to risks associated with:
- working in data centres and technical environments (e.g. electrical, trip hazards, manual handling);
- field work and site visits (e.g. driving, working at customer or supplier locations);
- office and remote work (e.g. ergonomics, screen time, and psychosocial risks).
¶ 6. Consultation, Training, and Communication
Spectrum Networks recognises that effective health and safety management requires open
communication and participation.
- Employees and contractors will be consulted on changes that may affect their health and safety.
- Relevant safety information and updates will be shared through meetings, email, or internal systems.
- New starters will receive an appropriate safety induction for their role and work location.
- Additional training will be provided where specific risks or specialised tasks are involved.
¶ 7. Incident Reporting and Emergency Response
All incidents, injuries, hazards, and near misses must be reported promptly using the
company’s reporting process.
- Incidents will be investigated to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Emergency procedures (e.g. fire, medical, evacuation) will be documented and communicated, and drills conducted where appropriate.
- Records of incidents, actions, and improvements will be maintained for monitoring and review.
¶ 8. Wellbeing and Remote Work
Spectrum Networks recognises that health and safety includes both physical and psychological wellbeing.
- Reasonable steps will be taken to support ergonomic and safe work setups, including for staff working remotely.
- Workloads and deadlines should be managed to avoid unreasonable stress and fatigue.
- Employees are encouraged to raise any wellbeing concerns with their manager so that appropriate support can be considered.
This Health and Safety Policy will be reviewed at least annually, or earlier if:
- there are significant changes to legislation, standards, or codes of practice;
- a major incident or change in operations occurs; or
- improvements are identified through consultation, audits, or incident investigations.
Updates to this policy will be approved by Spectrum Networks’ management to ensure it remains
relevant, effective, and aligned with the company’s values and legal obligations.
